Nailing the Perfect Projector Spot for My Simulator

I thought setting up my golf simulator projector would be simple, just mount it and play, but it turned into a full weekend of trial and error. The first night I had the image too close to the screen and it was super bright and fuzzy at the edges, then I moved it back a bit and the focus was off and shadows from my swing started appearing.

I ran into the same headache when I first got my setup, and the difference between “close enough” and “just right” is massive. What really helped me was referencing a guide on the ideal projector distance, which explained how far the projector should be from the screen depending on screen size and model. I realized that if the projector is too far back, the image loses brightness and focus, and if it’s too close, it creates shadows from your own swing and can even distort the image slightly. I measured my ceiling height, checked the swing path, and used tape to mark the temporary spot so I could test it before mounting. Zoom adjustments helped me fill the screen without stretching the image, and I also angled it slightly to reduce hotspots. Once I locked it in, everything finally looked crisp, and the tracking felt consistent with every swing. I also learned that a little extra time testing early saves frustration later — small tweaks make a big difference in realism and playability, especially when people are watching or practicing seriously. It’s wild how a tiny misalignment can completely ruin the feel, and getting it right made the whole indoor golf experience way more satisfying.
